Free Astronomy Club

Desert Academy is hosting a free program for any students 4th grade and up to learn basic stargazing strategies. We will meet once a month at Desert Academy, located at 7300 Old Santa Fe Trail, Santa Fe, NM, 87505, at 6pm which will last until 7:00/7:30pm on school nights. Meetings are scheduled according to what each session requires. Any level of experience is welcome. Parents are welcome to attend. The program is instructed by Korinna Ayala, who is currently an undergraduate student at St. John’s College. The program will eventually progress to an intermediate level.

Session I: 01/20 (Sun)
Lunar Eclipse and moon phases with binocular observations.

Session II: 02/11 (Mon) (New date)
How to find the North Star (Polaris) and the “movement” of the stars; basic constellations and visualization.

Session III: 03/06 (Wed)
Planetary observation;how to track planets and identify them on the ecliptic.

Session IV: 04/01 (Wed)
Identifying zodiac Constellations; how to read constellation charts; nebula and galaxy observations.

Session V: 05/08 (Wed)
Meteor Shower observations; telescope walkthrough and practice.
