“What I love about teaching at Desert is the true sense of community. Both the support between faculty and staff members, and the support teachers offer on an individual basis to their students, is truly unique. The warm and genuine atmosphere makes Desert feel more like an extended family than simply a place to work. I love the concept of global learning and the encouragement students are given to find their unique passions and express them in constructive ways. The learning that happens outside the classroom – with field trips, social service work, athletics, music events, film, art exhibits, etc. - complements that which is done at school, making for a rich and varied curriculum. The flexibility teachers have allows for more in-depth discussions and deeper levels of learning than is possible in a traditional classroom. As a result, academics are kept fresh for both teachers and students. I feel honored to be part of such a great school.” -Fiona Simon
